Sprawling across 147-acres, Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden is the largest garden known for its huge collection of orchids. Home to more than 4000 different species of plants, it is a treasure trove of Sri Lanka’s flora and representative species from all around the tropical world.

Peradeniyas Royal Botanical garden is the place where you can get the essence of true Sri Lanka’s flora. Enjoy a stroll along the classical Avenue of Royal Palms. Spread across 147- acres, this garden houses 4,000 different species of Plants. The major highlight of the garden is the Giant Bamboo of Burma, capable of growing to 40 meters height. As you move ahead, marvel at absolutely sensational century old giant Javan fig tree with tentacle like roots. The cannonball tree with its cannonball-like fruit hanging off the trunk and large open, waxy pink-white flowers are also worth watching. Another major attraction is the Seychelles’ originated Dobule Coconut Palms. You can also find the trees planted by Queen Elizabeth II , Marshal Tito and Yuri Gugarin during their visits to the garden.
