Situated near the town of Tampaksiring, Pura Tirta Empul is a Hindu temple where people go for purification. The temple pond has a sacred spring which is believed to have healing powers and assumed as a symbol of health and happiness. Once in a year, Balinese people come here to take a holy dip in the spring—which is known as Balinese fountain of eternal youth.

Just at a 40-minute drive from Ubud, Pura Tirta Empul was built in the year 962 during the Warmadewa dynasty. It is a spectacular temple dedicated to lord Vishnu, which is divided into three sections Jaba Pura (front yard), Jaba Tengah (central Yard), and Dan Jeroan (inner yard). As you roam through the central yard, you would see two pools with around 30 showers emerging out of them. The name of the temple is taken from the groundwater source which is named ‘Tirta Empul ‘. It is believed that a holy dip in the spring water brings good luck, health and happiness.
