Description

Enjoy a visit to the Bharatpur Government Museum and learn all about the magnificent past of Rajasthan. Located in the heart of Lohargarh fort, it is actually a huge palatial building Kachahari Kalan, which houses a rich and intense collection of archaeological items. Previously, it was an administrative block of the rulers of Bharatpur state and was converted into the museum in 1944. Here you can admire the sculptures excavated from the old villages such as Noh, Mallah, Bareh, Bayana and many others that range from Ist century A.D. to 19th century A.D. It also displays the weapons used in battle paintings, manuscripts, zoological specimens, local art and craft.
Explore the various specimens of miniature paintings on leaves of the peepal tree, mica and old litho papers at the art gallery. Paintings of the Maharajas of Bharatpur can also be seen here. The upper story of the museum has two sections. The first section consists of various types of guns & miniature canons used during the 18th century A.D. called ‘Chaddra’.
