Opened in 1993, it has a huge collection of artwork which is actually a personal collection of Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza and his son Hans Heinrich, amassed over half a century. Open in 1988 for the public it was the world’s most importance private collection which was later purchased by the Spanish state. The Museum houses a number of primitive Italian and Flemish paintings, along with works by Monet, Degas, and Renoir. Home to over 1000 works, the Museum is no less than an Art Gallery. Along with Europe’s most important collections of 19th-century American paintings here you can see Geometric abstraction, Mannerism, Baroque, Impressionism, Fauvism, Avant-garde and Pop Art. The Museum also features artist like Van Dyck, Rubens, Rembrandt, Titian, Picasso, O'Keefe, and Kandinsky.
