Description

The Basilica of San Croce is a vast church that features 16 chapels. Decorated with frescoes by Giotto and his pupils. Founded by St Francis, it is said that construction of the current church was started in 1294, by Arnolfo di Cambio. Gaze at its amazing architecture of the building which reflects the austere approach of the Franciscans. The main Cloister houses the Capella dei Pazzi, built as the chapter house. Admire the frescoes by Gaddi in the Cappella Maggiore and the beautiful frescoes by Giotto and Peruzzi chapels displays various aspects of the life of St. Francis and st. John the Evangelist. The Annunciation, in gilded limestone by Donatello decorates the south nave's wall along with the memorial of the 19th century is must exploring. playwright Giovanni Battista Niccolini is must exploring.
